Change Your Life With Positive Thinking - Improve Your Self Belief
81Some people are naturally positive thinkers, but for the rest of us, we have to learn it.
When we are thinking positively we tend to feel happier, we have more self belief and take the ‘anything is possible’ approach. And what’s even better about that is when we start to believe it, things starts to happen because we are more willing to give them a go.
The negative approach is when we are faced with an opportunity and instantly believe we are not up to the challenge, we think “no, I can’t do it” and a lot of the time we give up before we have even tried. Then it makes us feel bad about ourselves, we lose even more self belief and that often leads to us feeling depressed.
The more negative we are about things in our everyday life, the worse things seem to get. The more positive we are the better things get.
How can you think more positively?
This won’t happen overnight, you will need to spend some time retraining your mind to think differently. Whenever a negative thought enters your mind, you have to try and replace it with a positive one. Every time you hear yourself thinking “I can’t do it”, argue back with yourself and say “Yes I can”. Then think more about ways that you can do it, rather than ways of talking your self out of it. You have to be able to believe in your self more, you can do just about anything if you put your mind to it.
Let’s say for example you wanted to set your self up a small business. With negative thoughts, you would spend more time talking your self out of it. You would think things like “I can’t do it because it costs too much to get it started or I know a bit about it, but not enough and I don’t know how to do all the paper work”. And before you know it you have given up on the idea entirely. But with positive thoughts you would still think all those things but you would find solutions for them instead. You would say “ok, it costs a lot to get started, but what ways can I come up with the money? I don’t know enough about it yet, how can I learn more? I don’t know how to do all the paper work, where can I learn how or where can I find someone else that does?”
Finding solutions to all the things you think you can’t do soon shows you that you can, and that they are possible. And after some practice, you will start to talk your self into things more, rather than talking your self out of them. This will help you grow as a person and you will see the positive results in your own mind, when one day you realise that your first thought to something was “yes I can do that” instead of “no I can’t”.
Richard Branson is a brilliant example of a positive thinker, he has accomplished so much and he started out with very little, just like Mr or Mrs Average. He has just recently launched a rocketplane into space that the public can one day go on (If they have that kind of money of course). Do you think he would have done that if he said “no, I can’t do it?”
Ok positive thinking can help me be successful but what else?
Picture yourself being successful, how do you think that would make you feel?
If you have the “I can do it” approach it will automatically motivate you into doing it because you then know that it’s going to take an awful lot to stop you.
When you feel successful then you would feel happy with that, proud of yourself, maybe even quite powerful. What a great feeling it would be to know that you could start working towards your dreams after all.
Once you start thinking positively you would also feel the benefit of being less stressed or feeling down because you would be able to find a solution to the problems better. You would begin to deal with things better, making you a much more content person.
Not only would you feel better but the people around you would probably start to feel better. People pick up on the signals around them, so if you are: believing in yourself and giving off the ‘anything is possible’ vibe, then people would start to feel the same, they would start to feel that it is ok for them to be positive too. It is also a good idea if you can surround yourself with positive thinking people while you are in your early stages of practising this, as they will offer you some encouragement.
What else can I do?
Avoid beating yourself up when things go wrong, it happens to all of us sometimes. Its how you deal with it that makes the difference. Put that ‘thinking positively’ into practice, don’t waste to much time feeling sorry for yourself - if you fall off the horse, get back on it and try again.
When you’re stuck on something, see if you can talk to other people about it, ‘a problem shared is a problem halved’. Someone else might be able to help you with finding the solutions to your dilemma. Putting your head together with someone else can only make you both more productive.
Pay more attention to your thoughts and separate the difference between being negative and having a fear of change. Change is good. Try not to jump instantly to a negative conclusion, think it and then re-think it. Worry less about what other people think. If you have tried you’re very best, then you should be happy with the out come.
Which one do you want to be?
Optimist – Has a tendency to take the most cheerful view of things; hopefulness; the belief that good must ultimately prevail.
Pessimist – Has a tendency to see in the world what is bad, rather than good; a negative outlook that always expects the worst.

Wonderful hub. I have found, as well, that I need to guard what I say. We believe what we say, if we say it enough. So, speaking positively helps our thoughts to take on a positive tone, as well.
nice hub
Very good advice Victoria. We just have to keep working at it. It's tough sometimes but well worth the effort.
I like to think of myself as a hybrid between an optimist and a pessimist trying to become an optimist :) but you have made some good points in you hub!
this is so informative, and in teh end so true, other though make our actions not teh other way around.
A beautifully written and informative article Victoria - I'll look forward to reading more of your work. If we can uplift one person then our time has been well spent.
It takes a lot of effort in changing the thinking habit but it worths doing it. Thinking creates life. :)
Positive thinking.
That's good advice, thank you for reminding me.
Lovely thoughts that we need to be reminded of now and then! For some reason it seems like it is easier to be negative than positive! When in reality it is contrary! I love positive thinking people, and try to have as many as possible around me! Thanks for this awesome hub!
Too many grumpy and negative people in the world. Your simple but effective advice earns a "thumbs up."

That's a very good point Sinea, speaking positively will also attract positive people and encourage your own mind too. Brilliant, thanks for that point of view. Best wishes.xxx
